Follow These Step-by-Step Instructions:
1. Measure Width
Place the end of the tape measure at the left side of the bottom corner of your garage door and then pull it across to the right side of the bottom corner. Make sure that the tape measure is level so you get an accurate measurement. Record this measurement as you will need it when installing your new garage door opener or when buying a new garage door.
2. Measure Height
To measure the height of your garage door opening, use a tape measure and start at the highest point, near the middle of the opening. Measure down to the threshold of the door and record the measurement. When shopping for a new garage door, this measurement will be critical in determining which size to purchase. It is also important to consider any extra features that may be necessary during a garage door opener installation, such as the door being higher than standard to accommodate an opener.
3. Measure Headroom
Use a tape measure to measure the distance from the highest point of the garage door opening to the ceiling.
