Garage Door Safety Tips for Children
With many moving parts, your garage door is one of the most dangerous elements of your home. Talking to your child about garage door safety can help prevent life-threatening accidents. For their safety, please take the time to discuss each of the following topics with your child.
Safety Tip #1
Never run or play near a moving garage door. One false move could result in serious injury or death in the event of the garage door opening or closing. Children should never play unattended in the immediate vicinity of your garage door.
Safety Tip #2
Never touch a garage door opener system or a garage door pull cord. Garage door openers are dangerous and children should be aware of the dangers they pose.
Safety Tip #3
Never touch a moving garage door. While moving, a garage door can cause serious injury to your child’s fingers or hands. Children should remain at least 10 feet away from garage doors during operation.
Safety Tip #4
Remotes are not toys. Children should never have access to garage door opener remotes or wall buttons. If they must access the garage, they should have an adult present to operate the opener system.
Safety Tip #5
Accidents can happen in the blink of any eye. There’s no better time than now to teach your child about garage door safety. We recommend servicing your garage door and opener system yearly to help prevent more accidents from occurring.
